We all have a committee that lives in our heads. They’re the folks that whisper all the worst things that we think about ourselves and the ones that tell us we shouldn’t try, or we can’t do it. We all walk around with this secret society constantly convincing us that we can’t, or we won’t or we’re not worth it. For many of us, the committee has been collecting members and negative thoughts for as long as we have been cognitive. So how do we silence them? How do we train ourselves to listen to the ‘real’ us rather than the committee?
Self-doubt can be paralyzing. So, like learning to walk again, we can learn to quiet the committee and move past the fear. Start with baby steps.
Try something today that maybe you have been putting off because of the committee. Think of something that makes you uncomfortable or maybe you have been putting off trying. Begin with something small like seeing a movie by yourself, trying a new workout routine, singing to the radio out loud, or asking the questions that you really want to.
Walk around in the feeling of being free of the negative thoughts and see how it feels.
