I find it fascinating to discover where large, legitimate streams of money are flowing in this ambiguous economy.
Did you know that our most advanced steel roller coasters cost more than $20 Million dollars to make? 63, yep sixty-three, of these new amusements are expected to open this year at various places on our planet. My source: Fast Company, May 2010.
Pixar has confidently collected 24 Academy Awards. I’m proud to say I’m one of those enthusiastically awaiting the release of Toy Story 3 and my bet is that this movie will be adding to the trophy case. To me the cartoon characters are nostalgic and beyond adorable – come on, admit that you too secretly believed as a kid that your toys came alive when we were not looking. Pixar’s creativity is relentless – it takes 7 hours of computing time to create 1 frame of film. The revenue stream is incredible – the average international gross per Pixar film is more than $550 million. Check out more of the details in Wired, June 2010.
Jim Koch who created the brand for Samuel Adams Brewery said, “My original business plan with which I raised my money and started my business projected that we would reach production of 8,000 barrels of beer in five years. Turns out I was wildly pessimistic. We got there after five months, as we are currently at about 1.9 million.” Samuel Adams is the largest U.S. – owned brewery. I didn’t know that until I read about Jim in this month’s Success magazine. Did you?
If you have a similarly interesting number to post that compliment the ones above, please be my guest.
If you want to share a comment or insight about the story these numbers have to tell, I’ll even be more intrigued.
